Base Trip Records presents Tesselations, the second full-length release from Supersillyus (Rob Uslan). This epic double-album will allow listeners to explore highly evolved and extensively layered soundscapes while shaking their ass to a tasty mix of tribal drums, swirling synths, and the occasional marimba solo. Tesselations will take the listener on a journey past boundaries of IDM, world beat, and dub, making use of traditions as old as Sanskrit chants and as playful as a child’s Saxaboom. Supersillyus is quickly emerging as a pioneer of psychedelic genre-bending and his whimsical sound offers a unique look inside the mind of a musical wizard. Engineered by Rob Uslan and Mike McCarthy with album artwork by Rob Uslan.

    THIS IS SO DOPE!

  • ODR says:

Lets get one thing clear, from now on. THIS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpbDpRjMdGA is what is refered to as PSY-BREAKS, And what we have in this release is a typical lounge/dub. For once-lets stop naming genres without any order or basic knowledge of what respective genres mean under their respective names.

I set the styles for releases on the site so I suppose I should reply. I had a tough time deciding on this one and might change things up a bit after a few more listens. The breakbeat flavour of this release is not of the prime-time dance floor variety, true enough… but the original meaning of the term used to include lighter fare <120 BPM such as old school Digitalis, Synchro, Dendron, and Deviant Electronics, and it is this sense of the term that I was thinking of when I originally posted this release. Maybe I should have just called it "experimental" and left it at that!

Some really original and interesting ideas here, with diverse influences :)

A joy to listen to something so unique, especially in this day of cookie cutter genre writing.

  • jura says:

Acho certo que a música tenha suas definições. Assim como as cores: primárias, binárias e terciárias…Também assim classifica-se a música. Tudo tem sua origem e sua miscigenação.
    Um ótimo trabalho !!!

  • Rory says:

Wow, I just listened to the first song and I can tell this is just for me. Beautiful and spacious…
I don’t know what ‘psy-breaks’ are, but this is relatively unimportant. Genres are used to describe music, they are not absolutes.
Thank you so much for this dude :)
