The calling, which is only the beginning of the long walk back into the woods, leads us from the edge of the forest to the other side. Welcome to the launch of Kollektiv Audio Archives, an extension of a semi-annual psychedelic music and art gathering on the beautiful south shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. The Maritimes provinces of Eastern Canada are not well known for having much of a psytrance scene, though other electronic music styles are prevalent. Strangely, few local DJs and producers were aware of the popularity of psytrance music—until now. For this release we challenged local artists to write and perform something in this “new” style. Despite having little to no exposure to psytrance music the results were amazing, the festival quickly blew up, and a new generation of artists seized the opportunity to explore fresh sonic territory. The resulting compilation offers a rare glimpse into the beginnings of a new psytrance scene with few outside influences. Compiled by Everett Stone AKA Dartmouthian.
