Xamanist (Sérgio Ribeiro) stepped into the limelight with the release of Initiation, his debut album, on Ektoplazm back in January of 2009. Outside of the studio, Xamanist is a rare example of a genuinely live psytrance act. This live demo was recorded in 2009 and features real guitar improvisation over the music of Initiation. For those who are curious, here is a list of equipment used: Dell Laptop Core2 Duo, Edirol UA-1000 (audio interface), Edirol PCR-A30 (midi keyboard), Sonar 6 LE (sequencer), Fender Stratocaster, Line6 POD (guitar effects). This set was recorded live at the 2009 edition of Eclipse, an annual psytrance festival held at the Bonnet Rouge campground in Ste-Thérèse-de-la-Gatineau, Québec. My time slot was 9pm to 11pm on the opening night, Friday. Since people were just arriving I opted to play a deep and driving blend of techno and progressive psytrance to warm up the crowd and get everyone excited for the three days and nights of music to come. As with any live recording there are a few imperfections but I am mostly happy with how it all came out. Given how early I was on, many of my friends from Toronto were unable to catch it, so posting this set is also my way of saying “here’s what you missed!”

This set was recorded live at Darkrave vs Panic, a special one-off event held on the May long weekend in Toronto, Canada. My mission was to showcase the hard and nasty side of psychedelic trance often referred to as “darkpsy,” a style that is not often heard on Toronto dance floors. I try to ease it up near the end with a few crowd-pleasing tunes with big build-ups and a splash of melody but much of this set might be too intense for some listeners; consider yourself warned!

This set was recorded at the Om Reunion Project’s winter solstice celebration, “Dreamcatcher”, which was held on December 19th, 2008, in Toronto, Canada. The style is a frosty blend of minimal techno, progressive house, and deep psychedelic trance influences, mixed and arranged by DJ Basilisk. The scope is somewhat limited as it is a relatively short set but it should make for good listening nonetheless. Enjoy!

I have to say, it is a very cool thing to hear a mix featuring music from the site! Psyentifica has been very active in providing detailed comments for many of the releases available through Ektoplazm, and I really appreciate this gesture to the worldwide community. He has drawn on material from several releases including Positive Reaction, Warriors Of The Sun (Part 3), 60 Full Moons, State Of Spirit, Golden Vibes 1, and Cosmo Circle’s album Never Land. The second track into the mix is actually one of Psyentifica’s own compositions. Entitled Singularity, it is scheduled for release on an upcoming compilation from Infinity Loop Music.
