Simmetry And Kaos marks the debut of Mind Experience, a netlabel founded by A3k and Serial Freak. This global compilation features menacing material from producers based in Greece, Portugal, Switzerland, Israel, and Brazil. Simmetry And Kaos emphasizes the dark side of psychedelic trance without being monotonous–it also contains a couple of excursions into deeper realms of night music, particularly evident in the case of Anakoluth’s eerie closer. Septagram provides one of his strongest offerings yet and the Claw remix of an old Paranoize favourite is not to be missed. This release has been partially mastered by Bash (tracks 6 and 10) and artwork has been provided by D-Sign.

Cyclotron is the debut release from Goblin Records, a Slovakian psytrance netlabel founded by DJ Osku in early 2008. Osku emphasizes Slovakian content but this compilation also features material from Ukraine, Portugal, Italy, and the Czech Republic. The sound is undeniably underground, drawing inspiration from dark psychedelic trance and forest music without following any of the standard formulæ too closely. The mood is predominantly eerie rather than sinister; this compilation has a strange ambiance that sets it apart from many of the other releases on the market. The cover design by Genaro is particularly striking but this release does not appear to have been professionally mastered. Despite being a little rough around the edges, Cyclotron is worth a listen for fans of the darker side of psytrance, particularly for the enchanting downtempo finale.

The debut offering from the Warsaw-based No Comment Records is a ripping CD-length compilation packed with night-time blasters and full-on dance floor treats. This is very much a release designed for fans of the hard and gritty underground “darkpsy” strain of psychedelic trance. Throbbing bass lines, scratchy effects, and brooding atmospheres reign supreme, but there are moments where this compilation defies its own conventions in order to surprise the listener.
