Fennec is the Fennec Fox from Western Sahara. Or maybe it’s the U.K. or America? It’s not terribly important. This Place Was Once A Palace, released by Drumlore, serves as a brief follow-up to Fennec’s second album, R.I.P. City, once again quenching our thirst for wistful beats and plunderphonics. Exploring moods of loss, excess, and the emptiness of material wealth, Fennec treads on familiar territory, drawing on hip-hop and found sounds, while venturing deeper into the bowels of house and techno. If you’re not weeping on the dance floor, it’s because you’re crying in the bathroom as you hear the bass line of Omertà creep in on your shower radio. Donations are welcome via Bandcamp. All tracks written and produced and mastered by Fennec. Artwork also by Fennec.
